The Tarheel Cup
History
The first meeting between Head Coaches for The Tarheel Cup took place on Sunday October 25th 2015 at the Holiday Inn Express in Southern Pines. Coaches were Mark Lackey and Marty Hutchins representing the West boys and girls, Jimmy Adams and Steffany Gamsby representing the East boys and girls. Marty and Steffany agreed on dividing the state in half for their selection process. The dividing line separating East and West was agreed upon by coaches that starts with Pearson and Granville Counties, Durham and Wake counties, Chatham-Lee counties Harnett, Cumberland Moore-Hoke and Richmond-Scotland. Mark Lackey and Jimmy Adams agree to us the state template for their selection process.
A budget was presented by Marty Hutchins to Coaches and approved with 6 players per team making it a total of 24 players. The date of May 21st – May 23rd was approved with a practice round, team pictures and opening day dinner on Friday May 21st. Coaches approved the selection process which consists of the following: All Players are to be seniors and selected from all four N.C. state classifications. Once the first 4 players are selected, the remaining two players can come from any of the four classifications. Coaches approved the format to be played. Teams from the West will wear blue and teams from the East will wear red. Head coaches will be able to select their assistant coaches.
